Must-have collections

It is that time again. 2008 is almost over and there are less than four months to go till the holiday season. With the prospect of increased spending looming in the horizon, the courtship of consumers has also intensified. Earlier than usual, I must say, but these are hard times and additional revenue arriving early will help everybody. Of course, this also means great bargains, bonuses or all those other enticements the budget-conscious can take advantage of. Here now are three albums that offer a lot, must-haves for music lovers who want the best at a great price.

Chris Brown Exclusive The Forever Edition at P430. This is a repackaged edition of the hit album Chris Brown. It made Brown a star thanks to hit singles With You, Wall to Wall and Kiss Kiss featuring T-Pain. I have to admit this is something he should have done later. But like I said, times are hard and if this will mean more sales for the hip-hop heartthrob of the moment, let him have his way.

Brown should have included No Air, his sensational duet with American Idol Jordin Sparks but there are still new freebies for fans to enjoy. The Forever package has Brown’s three hits and the entire first album with Throwed, Take You Down, Picture Perfect feat. will.i.am, Hold Up feat. Big Boi, You, Damage, Help Me, I Wanna Be, Gimme Whatcha Got feat. Lil Wayne, I’ll Call Ya, Lottery and bonus tracks Nice feat. The Game and Down feat. Kanye West.

Newbies in Forever are the current hit single Forever, Superhuman feat. Keri Hilson, Heart Ain’t a Brain and the Picture Perfect Remix feat. Bow Wow and Hurricaine Chris. There is also a DVD available only in The Forever Edition. It is Chris Brown on Tour. Blurb says this is "a 30-minute look behind the scenes at the sold-out, upclose and personal tour of 2008." It also features a gallery of never-before-seen photos of Chris, of course.

The Best of Radiohead at P395. The legendary rock band made history with its decision to sell its latest album In Rainbows on-line at a price buyers think it is worth. That means you can pay a dollar and still get your copy. A lot of people said the guys were not right in the head and they would only lose money. That did not happen. Radiohead proved instead its marketing savvy has indeed mastered the computer age. In Rainbows became a big hit and because of the massive publicity generated by the on-line sales, there’s more interest in Radiohead than ever before. The two-CD set with 29 classic tracks comes out just in time. It is the album for loyal fans who can now listen to the hits in one album. It is also the album for new converts who want to learn more about the group without blowing their budgets on having to buy Radiohead’s seven CDs. Among the hits included are Karma Police, Creep, Paranoid Android, Fake Plastic Trees, I Might Be Wrong, No Surprises, Talk Show Host, The National Anthem, Just, High and Dry, My Iron Lung, There There, Lucky, Idioteque, 2+2=5 and True Love Waits.

Where the Light Is Live in Los Angeles by John Mayer for P395. It would have been nice if blue-eyed soul heartthrob Mayer had been one of those foreign acts who had been here to do shows. But since that has not happened yet, here is a wonderful CD through which we can get an idea about what we are still missing, plus live versions of his hits.

The two-CD set features a concert divided in three parts where Mayer also plays the guitar. It opens with an Acoustic Set, which has Neon, Stop this Train, In Your Atmosphere, Daughters and Free Fallin’. Next is the Trio Set where he performs with the John Mayer Trio and includes Everyday I Have the Blues, Wait Until Tomorrow, Who Did You Think I Was, Come When I Call, Good Love is on the Way, Out of My Mind, Vultures and Bold as Love.

To close he brings in his entire band for the Band Set in a most exciting finale with Waiting on the World to Change, Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, Why Georgia, The Heart of Life, I Don’t Need No Doctor, Gravity, I Don’t Trust Myself with Loving You, Belief and I’m Gonna Find Another You. Somebody should get this guy out here quick. He sounds fantastic.
